Any disabled veteran, upon proper application, shall be allowed to receive a free disabled motor vehicle license plates for up to two motorcycles or passenger cars for personal use. The register vehicle must be in his/her name upon presentation of proof that he/she qualifies as a disabled veteran. No additional disabled veteran plates can be issued.
In the event of the death of the person who received the special license plates pursuant to this Code section (OCGA 40-2-69), upon complying with the motor vehicle laws relating to registration and licensing of motor vehicles, his or her surviving spouse may continue to receive the free special license plates and revalidation decals until the death of the surviving spouse. This exemption continues only for that specific vehicle when the title is transferred into the surviving spouse’s name.

Persons who receive the required letter (above) from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs with a discharge under an honorable condition, and is 100 percent totally disabled or as being less than 100 percent totally disabled but is compensated at the 100 percent level due to individual unemployability, are exempt from Ad Valorem Tax and/or TAVT on one vehicle only, (O.C.G.A. § 48-5-478).
