What advantages will renewing my vehicle's registration on the Internet give me over renewing in person or by mail?
Renewing your registration over the Internet gives you more convenience and security than you would have from either going to your local tag office or depending on the mail. Using the Internet gives you the ability to verify the accuracy of the data and increases your protection against fraud and theft.

How can I be certain that this transaction is secure?
Making payments online is actually safer and more dependable than registering by mail.The Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR), partnering with Georgia Technology Authority (GTA), has implemented a state-of-the-art secure network that uses advanced encryption technology to ensure that only you and those whom you have authorized can access your confidential information.

What form of payment may I use to renew my registration online?
Motor Vehicle Divisions Online Vehicle Renewals will accept Master Card, American Express, Discover, and Electronic Checks.

What happens if I enter the wrong information?
Before your transaction is complete, you will see a verification screen that lists all the information needed to renew your vehicle's registration. This screen requires that you certify either that the information is correct or that it is incorrect. If you declare that the information is not correct, you will be prompted to click "Back" to change insurance information or to contact your local tag office to correct name, address or vehicle data.

What is a RIN and where do I get one?
Renewal Identification Number (RIN) is the number printed at the bottom of the registration notice you received in the mail. If your county is not yet participating in web renewal, there is no RIN on the renewal notice that came in the mail. The RIN is a unique number that allows DOR to process your transaction as you renew your registration and insure that your identity is kept private.

Will I get proof that I have registered my vehicle online?
At the end of the online transaction, a screen detailing each transaction will appear. Print this screen as your proof-of-payment receipt. You will receive the proof of registration and registration decal through the mail within 5 business days.

What does the processing fee cover?
The processing fee covers the cost of processing your renewal and the service charge that your county's tag office incurs in processing your credit card transaction.

When can I renew my vehicle registration on the Internet?
You may renew your registration after you have received your renewal notice with the RIN. If the renewal occurs after the expiration date, late penalties will be added to the total amount due. Renewals will be processed when you transmit them.However, at certain times the system may be temporarily unavailable due to routine maintenance and you may receive a message directing you to retry at a later time.

How does vehicle emission inspection work?
If you reside in one of the metro Atlanta counties, you are required to have your vehicle emission inspected prior to renewing your tag on-line. Once your vehicle passes emission inspection, renewal over the Internet will be available immediately. If your vehicle passed emission inspection and you are still unable to renew over the Internet, you are required to renew by mail or in person. If you renew by mail, be sure to enclose your Georgia Emission Inspection Certificate. If you renew in person, please be prepared to present your Georgia Emission Inspection Certificate.
